Alice Through the Looking Glass

Craig Jessen, Lewis Carroll

Alice Through the Looking Glass

language ( Oct. 9, 2012)
In this theatrical adaptation of Lewis Carroll's second Alice story, we follow literature's favorite child adventurer not down a rabbit hole, but through a looking glass into a world that is a whimsically warped reflection of our own.

Playwright Craig Jessen's adaptation maintains the whimsy and imagination of the original work, while infusing it with dramatic structure. Pulling from a variety of theatrical comedic traditions, the play utilizes slapstick, wordplay, and sight gags.

Alice's adventure is presented in six scenes, as she journeys across the giant chess board of Looking Glass World on her quest to be a queen. On the way, she encounters talking flowers, singing books, life-sized chess pieces, and a host of other characters. Along the way, Alice is forced to question why she is in such a hurry to grow up – especially when the imagination rich world of a child seems to be far more rewarding.
