In the fall of 1864, James Butler Hickok (age 27, later known as Wild Bill) has a clandestine meeting with some officers of the Union Army. He is hired to spy on Confederate activities in Northern Missouri. He goes to Leavenworth, Kansas, where he acquires a 17 year-old telegrapher to accompany him. The two men end up in the camp of Major General Sterling Price, who is leading an invading Confederate Army . . . but where is he going?Events attach the two men to defensive Union troops in skirmishes that lead to Westport, a village just south of Kansas City, where the largest Civil War battle west the Mississippi will be fought.
