This leather bound edition of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving is a gorgeous collector's edition complete with lovingly crafted illustrations. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a short story first published in 1820, though this Easton Press book contains other Washington Irving short stories as well. In The Legend of Sleepy Hollow the schoolmaster Ichabod Crane competes for the hand of a young woman, and is pursued by the Headless Horseman. The story is based on a German folktale. While the story leaves the existence of the Headless Horseman open for interpretation, it strongly suggests that the Headless Horseman is actually another man who was competing for the hand of the same woman - and end up marrying her in the end after the disappearance of Ichabod Crane.
