Poor Margery: When her father Farmer Meanwell lost everything to Farmer Graspall and Sir Thomas Gripe, Margery was orphaned without even a pair of shoes. She learned to read and taught the other children. She became governess to Sir Charles Jones who married her. This anonymous tale sometimes is attributed to Sir Oliver Goldsmith.
