EXCERPT

The moon began its ascendance toward the tip of the sky. Becca's feet dropped down into the light waves. She kicked slowly and softly. Shane, obsessing over his next moves like an old chess player in the park, allowed his own feet to join hers. A temperate breeze brushed past the two. The air appeared to be resonating from the bottom of the sea. It wasn't the first time that Becca felt this way.
"Can you feel that?" She said as she finally looked Shane in the eye since arriving. Her glance made his heart skip a beat.
"Feel what?"
"The wind...I can feel it between my toes. It's coming all the way from the bottom of the sea."
"That's impossible," chuckled Shane. "There isn't any wind in the sea. You sure you're not caught in a batch of seaweed or something?"
"Oh, no. I'm very sure. Seaweed doesn't excite me much."
"You sure say the most interesting, odd things."
Becca shifted herself away by an inch and looked back at the water. "I'm sorry."
Shane leaned in slowly and braced his hand against the boards. "Don't be."
