First, there was darkness. And then there was light.

Annabelle Laurentine is a pariah in her small town. Boys dare each other to shove their tongues down her throat and girls vandalise her locker with dismembered Barbie dolls. But it's not until a latest prank spearheads the murder of her life-long tormentor that sixteen year old Annabelle starts to realise how different she is.

When her bully's killer begins to threaten her, Annabelle escapes with the help of two strangers . . . who kidnap her themselves. They take her to the extravagant Blythe House, where they explain their shared identities as Inhasbin. Gifted with abilities as psychics, telekinetics or shapeshifters, the Inhasbin are rare individuals with the choice between protecting humans or exacting revenge against the lesser race.

Annabelle makes her decision. But just as she embraces her new life, a web of secrecy, a string of murders, and a night spent hand in hand with the enemy lead her to believe Annabelle she might be different from the rest of her new friends.

And she is.
