As evidence of the widespread interest in Marlowe's play, it is sufiicient to mention that there are no less than four German translations (muller's, 1818; B'ottger, 1857; Boden stedt, 1860; V. De Velde, Francois Victor Hugo issued a French version in 1858; a Dutch translation by Modderman was published in 1887.
