The Lunar Princess: Owl and Sugarplum

Tiil Books has penned a beautiful fairy tale in the guise of a straight-up fantasy YA Book, and it succeeds on both counts. The story takes place in a massive web of an invented world in which the Lunar Princess protects the Nocturnal creatures and animals from the evil King Constellation.
Raised in isolation by her parents, the Lunar Princess and Sandman, Sugarplum has only known the world within the castle and its gardens. It is the owl, Orion, who has served as Sugarplum's guardian and protector. Orion has sworn, upon her own life, that King Constellation will never have the child.
That promise was made nearly two years ago, on the eve of Sugarplum's birth, after King Constellation demanded the Lunar Princess, give him the child. Now, on yet another birthday night, Orion wonders if she's made the right choice. After all, the young crown princess is filled with energy, life, and magic. Even at the young age of two, Sugarplum is clearly a talented wielder.
