Kelly’s Cuts: A Young Adult Horror Story

(Northern Starlight Young Adult Press July 16, 2016)
Kelly recovers from her brutal beating, but she hasn’t yet recovered from herself. The nightly cutting continues, and she feels her whole word turning upside down. On an impulse, she decides to try to make a friend, but instead someone befriends her, and she finds herself hanging out with the “wrong kind” of kids at the skatepark. Why is her life so screwed up? She still hasn’t seen the kidnapper who captivates her so much, and the razor in her dresser drawer is so, so inviting.
Kelly’s Cuts is the third story in the Kelly’s Freedom series from Northern Starlight Young Adult Press, which tells the story of a teen girl’s escape from a life of pure hell. It continues the story started in Kelly Kidnapped and Kelly’s Captor. It contains mature situations and mature language and is intended for mature teens. Parents should read this ebook to determine if the subject matter is appropriate for children in their care.
Here is a preview:
I walked by the house after school, and when I saw my Mom’s car wasn’t there, I snuck into the house. She wasn’t home, thank God. When I got to the living room, I saw Carson lying on the couch. “I thought you would be out with your girlfriend.”
I said it viciously. I was really mad at him, and I had no idea why. He shook his head and said, “PMS much?”
“Why do you say that?” I snapped.
“Because you're being bitch.” I rolled my eyes, but secretly, I agreed. He sat up. “I don't always hang out with Ella, you know.” That was a lie.
“Well then where do you go with her every day? It's not fair to me.”
Carson rolled his eyes. “Mind telling me why exactly it's not fair?”
I glared at him.
“I think you know why.” He obviously knew why it wasn't fair that he was out with somebody and I was here alone with the she-devil.
“No, Kelly. I really don't.” I took a deep breath and rolled up the sleeves on my sweater. My cuts weren't something I wanted to show.
“What the hell Kelly?! You can't blame that on me!!” Oh my God. Was I really hearing what I thought I was? I just told my brother my darkest secret and he blew it off like it was nothing!
I was causing myself harm and he didn't even make an effort to help. “Carson! Do you know what these are?” I screamed at him.
“Yeah, I do. What do you want me to do about it?” I resisted the urge to take my nails and scrape his face and make it bleed. My brother had joined my father, completely unable to see what was happening. Just another little snapshot of what I went through every day.
