“This is all so surreal....I didn't think kids actually ran away in real life. I thought it only happened in the movies.”
But somebody in the girls' “real life” has run away from home—an eighth-grade classmate named Kiara. It's late October, and the girls shiver whenever they wonder where she might be hiding.
The police are on it of course. But that doesn't stop the girls from worrying, and soon enough they're on it as well. They sift through the clues, piecing together what Kiara's life was like before she left.
An unhappy home life, the desire to be with her “other” family, a mysterious encounter with a pervy school coach....these are just some of the possible motives they uncover. What drove Kiara away, and most importantly—is she safe where she is now?
Recommended for girls age 10-13.
