Geoffrey was certainly well educated, but the statement that he was at Cambridge rested on the lines from The Court of Love, now known not to be his: -"Philogenet I cald am fer and nere,Of Cambridge clerke."1359.Chaucer went to France as a soldier with Edward III and his four sons, and was taken prisoner.1360.
