ACTING UP

(Allsorts Publishing July 5, 2011)
All Howard wants to be, when he grows up, is a plumber, like his dad.
But Howard's mum had other ideas. For she has decided that Howard is gifted and artistic. Yes – Howard’s got talent.
So first there are the violin lessons - only whenever Howard starts to play, his teacher bangs her head against the wall.
Then there are the ballet lessons - only Howard's dancing partner ends up in a wheely bin.
Finally, there is the Miss Reedpole Academy of Dramatic Art. And to Howard's astonishment, he seems to have a flair for acting. (He's especially good at acting half-wits.) Roles follow, on the professional stage. Then a part in a TV advertising campaign as The Lumpy Bar Kid.
Has Howard's luck changed? Does greatness beckon? Or is it all about to go wrong again?
A book for children of all ages - especially those fond of acting up.
