Alex learns an important life lesson about his little buddy - the family cat, Sandy. His grandpa tells him about the pets he had when he was a little boy. He shows Alex how he kept his pets' memories alive over the years by keeping pictures and writing down memories about them. Included in the book are journal pages for readers to insert photos and write memories of their pets so they will always remember their own little buddies.

Mike Shimek has had a soft heart for small animals ever since he can remember. Growing up on the family farm, he always had a goldfish, a dog, and a couple cats. It was never easy saying goodbye to his little buddies, and he still has fond memories of each one. Mike remains a devoted pet owner, living in Leelanau County, Michigan. He spends his time fishing and gardening.
