The first three books tell the story of the heroine’s first lifetime in the Song Dynasty of China, as Princess Pearl of the underwater kingdom of Emerald Mirrors. Starting from Book Four, the series jumps to modern-day America in a small town by the Mississippi River, where a teenage girl unveils the mysteries of her life.

Against the laws of the immortals’ world, Aqua Princess Pearl enters the dangerous land of humans, to help the love of her life seek justice for his persecuted father and carry forward his unfinished project of preventing floods by the untamed Yellow River. Disguised as Ming’s pre-arranged fiancée, Pearl cares for him and saves his life for a second time.
Just when Ming finds out her true identity and vows to be with her, Pearl is captured by soldiers of the Heavenly Courts. Granted the option of returning to her world, Pearl is once again faced with a choice that will change her fate and her destiny forever….
