Ralphy and the Rang-E-Koos

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform Sept. 20, 2018) , 1 edition
Ralphy and The Rang-E-Koos is the story of a little kangaroo with dyslexia who is born into a world of Rang-E-Koos that don't understand what having dyslexia means. Poor Ralphy is exiled for his backwards ways and soon meets a group of kangaroos that teach him that having dyslexia is just fine and that there is nothing wrong with him. This positive message of acceptance is brought back to the Rang-E-Koos who learn about dyslexia and realize that learning about peoples’ differences is the best way to accept and even celebrate them. Even in elementary school, dyslexic children often deal with bullying. That is why they worry about being called on to read aloud or to participate in class. My book will help to encourage them. It is a way to teach acceptance through knowledge. If everyone is more accepting, there is no need for fear or anxiety, only a positive learning environment. It will appeal to middle grade aged children with its rhetoric, illustrations, and tone. It is set in whimsical rhyme and has a Dr. Seuss feel along with some Lewis Carroll type made-up words. The book can be compared to works such as Sneeches by Dr. Seuss and You Be You by Linda Kranz.
