STAR BEAR'S DIARY: Star Bear is good with numbers

language ( July 29, 2014)
‘Star Bear’s Diary’ is a wonderful collection of short stories for five-year-olds to eight-year-olds in which adventure and fantasy and magic combine in a richly imagined world.

Star Bear is the class teddy bear, and every weekend he looks forward to being taken home by one of the children and having an adventure with them, learning and teaching lessons about important subjects, like kindness. For the children fantasy becomes reality as they show Star Bear around their worlds and introduce him to many memorable characters, including the industrious fairy Erin and the excitable hobbyhorse, Ben.

Each of these short stories takes Star Bear into a new and exciting world of adventure and fantasy, with the children learning and teaching him about caring and friendship. There is Emma, whose garden is so well cared for the fairies decide to hold a night of fantasy and magic, with both she and Star Bear in attendance. There is Henry, whose kindness leads him to help an old hobbyhorse with a tattered ear. There is Lucy, who takes Star Bear to her grandpa’s farm, where there is a new litter of piglets to be counted. And finally there is Liam, who teaches the importance of listening when one of his toys goes missing and must be found again.

For children fantasy is an escape to brilliant imaginary worlds while providing important lessons for life. As a collection of stories for five-year-olds to eight-year-olds, ‘Star Bear’s Diary’ creates a rich variety of lovable characters and easy to understand lessons for children learning about life.
