Ten year-old Nick Murphy has a great love of airplanes—something he learned from his mom, who is an Air Force pilot. She’s teaching him to fly and, together, they take to the skies in everything from an old World War I biplane to the most modern jet fighter. The only problem is, it’s all in his imagination.
Confused and overwhelmed by grief over her death, Nick isn’t ready to go on without her. But real-life battles are raging, at home and at school, and he needs to face them, without his mom by his side... and learning to fly solo might just be the best way to say goodbye.
