The Diary of Captain Daniel Roe, an Officer of the French and Indian War and of the Revolution: Brookhaven, Long Island, During Portions of 1806-7-8

Hardcover (Forgotten Books Feb. 3, 2018)
Excerpt from The Diary of Captain Daniel Roe, an Officer of the French and Indian War and of the Revolution: Brookhaven, Long Island, During Portions of 1806-7-8The children of this wort'hy couple, in order. Were Daniel, Joseph Brew ster, Deborah, john, Joanna, Charlotte, Ruth, Mary, Hannah, Rebecca and Hulda'h (twins), and Austin, of which list the last four were born while the family was in exile, i. E., while living in Connecticut during the Revolution. Vv'hile the temptation to dwell on the merits of each respective member of this family is great, the limits of the article forbid more than the barest detail, though this must be said, that each one was a Puritan of the strictest type, worthy descendants of people who had left their British homes for conscience sake. The regularity of the advent of children to this household from the first in 1762 to the last in 1782, with an interval of two years in every case, is worthy the study of sociologists; evidently, Nature had her own way to the letter.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
