Tommy has everything a boy could wish for - loving parents, lots of friends, regular access to all his favourite foods . . . until a terrible accident leaves him with scars on his face.
Taunted by his schoolmates, Tommy runs away from home, but as he makes his way up a steep hill, he trips and falls, nearly succumbing to the frigid night air. He is discovered by a strange community of beings, living deep inside the earth.
