Reprint of the first edition illustrated by Maxfield Parrish. This edition of the Arabian Nights was printed by Charles Scribner's Sons specifically as a vehicle for the illustrations by Parrish, previously created between 1904 and 1910 for the pages of Collier's magazine Ludwig 32 . Though considered by many to be considerably more subdued than previous versions textually, the wide variety of pictorial effects achieved by Parrish in his illustrations lend his subjects the pathos, vibrancy, and humor that each individual composition requires Ludwig 32-4 . Pictorial end papers, cover page, and color paper cover label also appear to be of Parrish's design. Slightly rubbed.
