A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court

Mark Twain's satirical novel, published in 1889, is the tale of a commonsensical Yankee who is carried back in time to Britain in the Dark Ages, and it celebrates homespun ingenuity and democratic values in contrast to the superstitious ineptitude of a feudal monarchy. In an effort to bring democratic principles and mechanical knowledge to the kingdom, Hank Morgan strings telephone wire, starts schools, trains mechanics, and teaches journalism. But when Hank tries to better the lot of the peasants, he meets opposition from many quarters.
