The Beacon Hill Bookshelf was inaugurated in the autumn of 1924 with eight volumes. More volumes were added over the years. This collection of books were of an approved quality and appealing format for boys and girls. Most of the books were long established classics, but there was a prize contest for a new story to add to the collection. Out of almost four hundred submissions, The Trade Wind was selected as the winner. Miss Meigs won a prize of two thousand dollars for this book. This edition includes incredible color illustrations by Henry Pitz.
