Seeking followers to his cause as his next task, Aidan and his small fellowship approach Coccium, expecting to place themselves in the path of a savage army heading into northern Brigantes. But what they find is that not all enemies come down from the north painted with blue woad and wielding sharp weapons. Some enemies fester in the ranks and like a poisoned boil erupt to kill the host. And so it is in Coccium.
Aidan must use all his wits, make new friends with morally questionable decisions, find old friends where he did not expect them. And yet luck must play its part if he's to survive and continue his quest.
