The War of the Worlds

One of the earliest works to depict a conflict between Earth and an alien race, H. G. Wells 'The War of the Worlds' is the grandfather of modern science fiction. First serialised in 1897, the book tells the story of an unknown protagonist and his first hand experiences of the Martian evasion of Earth.
Beautifully told, Wells captures the Victorian golden age of science and invention, against a backdrop of class divide and a sprawling city of panicked masses, as one man fights to find his wife.
The Martians arrive unannounced in waves, killing indiscriminately with their tripod fighting-machines, their heat-rays and gas-guns, intent on terraforming the world with the red weed.
Only hope, nature, and the "Thunderchild" stand between the Martians and the annihilation of the human race.
This special illustrated edition contains 30 works of art by Henrique Alvim Corrêa, originally featured in a 1906 edition of the novel, here lovingly presented and indexed for your viewing pleasure.
