When dad brought home Old Colonel our love affair with horses began. I was seven years old and my sister was four years old. We learned how to brush him, halter him and finally ride him; even though Betty slid down and off his rump and landed in a woodpile. Brownie and Baby Doll were our first real riding horses. He was an old contest horse and she was as stubborn and ornery as they come. But, we made them into our 4H projects. Never a dull moment.The Blizzard of 1966. An emergency ride through a blizzard to save a road crew [ my dad,uncle and cousin] from running over a downed and hidden power line.The Summer of our Adventures. Travelling to horse shows, putting on a horse show and a suprise bucking contest.Mae Leo Cody and Hollywood Zero. Our first registered Quarter Horses. Betty is seriously injured and undergoes surgery.Critical Care Unit: We have an extrememly violent overnight storm. Mae Leo Cody and Hollywood Zero are injured. Zero or Buck ,as I had nicknamed him must undergo emergency surgery.Mom and Dad: Our parents were both raised useing horses in both farm work and as an everyday vehicle to get around. They both encounter some very serious situations.
