Having traveled back in time to foil a plot that would have destroyed all of Culver Falls, Apple and Lucy return to find subtle changes due to their meddling with history.

Just how far reaching did their visit to the past change history? And what is the secret that has put a barrier between Apple and Lucy’s mom?

But all that takes a backseat when events that defy explanation begin to occur. Dead sheep are found in trees seventy feet above the ground; landslides are causing train derailments with alarming frequency; townspeople are disappearing without a trace; and forest fires break out almost daily—even in the pouring rain.

Finally, a student from their school is captured by one of the creatures, and the girls go into the forest to rescue her. There, Apple has to make a choice that will mean life or death for the people she loves. But in so doing, she will have to choose what is more important—their own lives, or the life of a monster.
