Randy stood about fifteen feet from the edge of the cliff. He had already looked over the edge and knew that way down there was a river. As far as the eye could see there was jungle—left, right, and all around him on the mesa. Mesas were uncommon in this part of the country, and he was glad Carlos had shown him this one on a prior expedition as it now became critical for his escape. He knew he didn’t have long before his pursuers arrived. They were coming up fast. He knew their intent was to kill him because Randy had dared to take something they valued highly. Now the only place to go was over the cliff. For a brief moment he thought about what had brought him to this point. Who would have thought the years before in Utah would have come to this?He got closer to the edge and checked all his gear. Then he jumped!
