Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell was the first woman to complete medical school in the United States. Initially accepted into medical school as a "prank," Elizabeth maintained her focus in spite of obstacles for a woman studying medicine in the 1800s. She graduated in 1849 from Geneva Medical College and moved to the UK to begin working as a physician.
