Arlette La’Chance visits her dying grandmother, only to be pulled into her family’s nefarious world when she is telepathically shown an ancient memory of their ancestors. The memory reveals the Beautiful Ones, an extinct vampire race that Arlette’s grandmother, and the society that she leads, have been trying to bring back by selectively breeding their own members, the almost extinct Beautiful Ones Becoming. Arlette is told that not only is she a Beautiful One Becoming, but that as her vampire genome is expressed she may become the most gifted one.
Arlette’s emerging gifts are exciting, yet terrifying, and she turns to Luke Azevedo, a fellow society member, for help. Luke captures Arlette’s affection by helping her deal with her burgeoning powers and the resulting radical changes to her personality.
But even with the right DNA, and the powerful gifts that it brings, a transition must still occur, a transition that most believe only a Beautiful One can initiate. The problem becomes how do you create the first Beautiful One? Could Arlette, as her grandmother desperately believes, be the Throwback, the key to unlock the full power of her ancestor’s genome?
Excerpt from Prologue:
Arlette's eyes locked onto his --- dark, brooding, beautiful eyes, judging him, trying to decide if he was up to the task. Would he fail her? Would he fail them all?
It was the year 2014, five days after he had met her. Five days that had changed Arlette from a weak young woman wanting to please to a young woman who seized control and gave the orders. She was their leader, and he would serve her now.
