Dispatched to watch out for Scarman, Sergeant Hawke can see what the scientist’s failing mind cannot: that the ‘princess’ is nothing more than entertainment hired by the poachers for their long journey. Fearful of the girl’s influence, Hawke knows she has to find Scarman before the ageing scientist realises all too late that he is not the jungle pulp hero he’s convinced himself he is.
