Published in 1888, The Happy Prince and Other Tales is a collection of short fairy stories for children by Oscar Wilde. In addition to the eponymous tale, it includes The Nightingale and the Rose, The Selfish Giant, The Devoted Friend and The Remarkable Rocket. Wilde had grown up in a household full with Irish folklore and was known to be able to fill an evening with remembered tales. It sits beside his other book of stories A House of Pomegranates, but is differentiated by the change of tone and culture.
