A young man too early thrust into the shoes of his father after he died, he yearns for respect from the local men who scorn him and acceptance in the eyes of Lucy Willicot, the prettiest girl in the county.

Consumed by the story of the white deer and mocked by the townspeople for it, he makes the decision to hunt, kill and bring back the elusive white deer of legend in an attempt to prove himself. Is the white deer real or merely a figment of local lore? What he encounters on his dark quest changes him and reveals his true self.

This coming of age story takes place in a time long gone however its theme of a young man discovering his true character and in the process, growing up resonates today.
