When a rare December thunderstorm rocks the sleepy town of Northwoods, Vermont, it delivers far more than wind, rain, and lightning.

Just before dark on December 15, every dog in town begins to bark and snarl – but they’re not upset about the storm. A far greater chaos has its sights set upon Northwoods, and by dawn the authorities are frantically searching for multiple missing residents.

Despite a curfew and a heavy police presence, even more people disappear the next night…and the next night. No one in Northwoods is safe, not even during a town-wide lockdown. Confronted with an unprecedented evil, Jean Whitney must take desperate measures and rely on shocking sources to protect her young son.
