When Tomas Hinkkel discovers a sorcerer’s staff in the Black Sun Forest the Circle and Crescent Academy of Magic and Craft finds itself a new recruit. Along with the other first-year students Tom is taken on a journey to the Kingdom of Abbington’s capital city, Thiamore.
Once there he has to overcome the initial trials and entrance exams before he can be selected. He meets a young aspiring wizard, Mica and his reluctant witching sister Amber.
Before they even get a chance to start their studies the crystal Heart of Abbington is stolen. And an old curse begins to come true. This is all foreseen by a young fortune teller Jenny.
As the city begins to fall into chaos the students find themselves in the middle of the search for the Heart of Abbington, taken by a mysterious creature into the forest.
Not only do they have to find their way out of the forest before dark, but they have to learn how to control their developing magic too.
