It is the end of the day before Christmas vacation at Moffat County High School in Northwest Colorado. Another blizzard looms, ready to pounce on the kids going home. A new girl, unknown by any, untrusted by all is offered a ride by kind classmates. The young lady asks to be left at a crossroads rather than be taken home. She thanks her classmates, acknowledging that they are the first have shown her kindness since her arrival. On the way to their homes in the Great Divide Country they hit an elk in the blinding storm. The car goes into a field and flips, gasoline flows over the vehicle. The girl they had left beside the road earlier helps them escape from the car. The sheriff arrives, saying that an unknown dispatcher guided him to the accident. He had been at another accident. A girl killed when she was ran over at the crossroads.
