Watch Out, World! is a novel for 9-11 year olds with an unusual format. Told by two very real twelve-year-old boys, DeVon Williams and Victor Hansen, their shared adventure is captured in separate, back-to-back narratives so that readers experience and understand events from each boy's point of view. Their adventures differ enough so that, except at the beginning, their stories are not identical. The boys meet at a summer camp as co-counselors in charge of a class of third graders. Enemies at first, when they are hurled into the future with one of their eight-year-old charges, the irrepressible Cassie O'Connor, they gradually come to recognize and rely on each other's strengths. As they try to understand where they are and why, they find it's a future they want no part of. But can they figure out a way to get back so they can do something to make the future "come out better?" No matter which boy's story readers choose to read first, they will not have the answer to that question until they read the other.
