Chip Takes Off
Paperback
(Outskirts Press Jan. 11, 2013)
Chip Street hated school. He had trouble reading, and was teased by classmates. However, in middle school he found he was good at building things. He built something spectacular, and planned to enter his invention in the science fair at school. But when his father lost his job and had to take another job halfway across the country, he made Chip promise he would not use his invention until he returned. When Chip, his sister, and two friends are trapped in the house with snow up to the roof, Chip must make a decision. Should he break his promise to his father and use his invention to try to get them out? His decision must be made quickly when an avalanche threatens to destroy the house they are in and most of the town. With suspense and humor, this fast-paced story describes the problems these youngsters encounter during their three-day ordeal. Written by a school psychologist, the main character in this story overcomes learning problems and bullying to become a local hero, after he risks his life to save the lives of others. In a strange twist of fate, he even saves the bully who had tormented him.
