Eagle Squadron

language ( Sept. 15, 2019)
Emily Riker has lived at the compound for the last 10 years, ever since a meteor struck the moon and sent large amounts of debris into the earth's atmosphere triggering a new ice age. While humanity struggled to stay alive, a new power source called plasma was discovered among the moon shards that peppered the earth. Compounds sprang up wherever moon shards were found and began harvesting this new power source, and everything seemed to be going well, until someone started stealing plasma canisters right under everyone's nose. Can Emily find the perpetrator before her compound becomes the next victim in this series of thefts?

Excerpt

The hour passed quickly, and Emily executed the arrival process perfectly. The convoy landed with no problems on the landing pad, and the magnetic force field was reestablished with out any qualms. The admiral of the convoy exited the lead ship and began directing the unloading of ore into storage bays off the side of the hanger. This took the majority of Emily's shift, and she was just looking forward to a sandwich and a mug of hot cocoa in the break room when an alarm sounded and yellow lights began flashing every where.

"What on Earth?" she bellowed, as she typed several commands into the terminal. The map of the compound began lighting up like a Christmas tree. Emily typed more furiously as alert after alert popped up on her screen. Suddenly, everything went dark and the computer whirred into silence. She grabbed the comlink and asked for Hensible... no response. Even the glimmering blue hue of the magnetic force field was gone. As she stared out into the landing bay, she could hear the sound of a small vehicle flying out the skyport. She tried to follow it in the dark and saw a tiny black speck dart off into the ice and snow in the failing daylight.

Emily waited several minutes, hoping the power would come back on, but it never did. She tried the light on her Wabo stick and it turned on immediately. She heaved a sigh of relief, then started moving down the hall toward the main doors of the landing pad. When she reached them, she realized that they were in very real trouble. The doors were electronic, and non-functional.
