When Jenna Jordan's parents are killed on New Year's Eve by a drunk driver, she is placed in foster care with Nick and Emily Echols, and her nightmare begins. Emily is possessive, insisting on knowing every move Jenna makes. Nick is abusive, taking great pleasure in hitting Jenna. And his long list of rules are almost impossible for the thirteen year old to follow. After six months of misery, Jenna escapes by stowing away in the back of a pickup truck leaving one of the many Las Vegas conventions. She has no idea where she's headed; she only knows it has to be better than being trapped another day in the Echols home.
