Good as Gold

When Yosef Gold sets out for Pikes Peak, he has big dreams of a country where the streets are paved with gold. With little more to his name than the gold nugget in his pocket from his grandfather he discovers soon enough that times are hard all over in the 1860’s and not just in Poland. Realizing, much to his dismay, that he has become more of a burden than a help to his brother and his family in the Territory of Kansas, Yosef makes plans. But can a greenhorn from Poland make good on a dream of riding for the Pony Express and earning the astonishing sum of a hundred dollars a month? And can a twelve-year-old single handedly force Congregation Beth Jacob to rehire his brother? Yosef certainly hopes so, and in between preparing for his bar mitzvah and spending time with his new friend Aron, Yosef makes plans the like of which no one in Pikes Peak has ever dreamed of before.
