Belle of the Glades is a wonderful book. I loved how the book flowed and the story line kept my attention. The characters were so real and I felt like I connected with each and every one of them on a different level. I started reading the book and could not put it down.
I also loved how while reading the book I felt like I could picture every location the author was talking about. I have visited Florida many times in my life but never spent much time in the area the book takes place. I look forward to making sure to make it there and find the beauty to be just as enjoyable as it was to read about.

Great book with a fast paced storyline. Set in a place I know very well - born in Pahokee and grew up mostly in Clewiston. I was able to visualize the area in my head as I read the story. Felt authentic to the setting of South Florida. I liked how the main character of Isabelle's story is told from the third person POV but still includes what Isabelle is thinking. She worries about her new life in a strange place but quickly learns that it is not as bad as she thought it was going to be. Highly recommended.

It was special to read a story about the area of Florida where I grew up. I am always looking for a good book for my grandchildren but I was especially delighted that I enjoyed it myself. I recommend this book for readers of all ages. I enjoy her fresh style.
This Christian historical fiction book introduces recently orphaned eleven-year-old Isabelle Lacey. She leaves the comfort and safety of Indiana behind to travel clear across the country by train and boat to stay at her uncle Arden's fish camp at Lake Okeechobee, Florida.
When she arrives at the Everglades, Isabelle feels like she's in a completely different world. Known as the last wilderness frontier of America, this water-filled landscape is populated with snakes, alligators, and a host of unsavory characters.
While exploring one day, she finds a shell rock inscribed with a map. Isabelle and her new Indian friend, Summer, are eager to track down the treasure, but danger waits. Ruthless outlaws in the area will stop at nothing to turn a profit, even if it means kidnapping Isabelle. Will she be able to escape and finally find the treasure and happiness?
