Being the first month of the year, January got its name from the Latin word "door". This is the month when you think of opening doors to new possibilities and new beginnings. It's a good time of the year to make new year's resolutions, take up a hobby (it's a National Hobby Month) and celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.
January is also National Soup Month and International Creativity Month.
