Why is this marine animal called a Yeti Crab?
To understand what a Yeti Crab is and why it’s named that, let us first understand what “Yeti” means.
The word Yeti refers to a mythical (or made-up) creature that looks like an ape. According to legends, this creature is huge – very much taller than a man. It is often compared to humans because of the way it stands – it stands erect just like a normal person. The creature is also being compared to apes because again, it stands in the upright position, and even more so because it’s hairy – VERY hairy.
Now let’s talk about the Yeti Crab which is also called by other names, such as Yeti Lobster or Furry Lobster.
The Yeti Crab is a Crustacean species – just like crabs and lobsters. But the Yeti Crab or Yeti Lobster is not a crab – and it’s not a lobster. It is simply its own species of Crustacean.
The most important part of its name is the Yeti part. By now, you probably already know why it’s called that. You see, a Yeti is VERY hairy – and the Yeti Crab or Yeti Lobster or Furry Lobster is indeed VERY hairy, as well.
