Jane Series, Book 1 of 5

Jane Morton, an eighth grader with ESP begins the school year by meeting a new boy similarly gifted. The story follows them through the school year and the following summer. Their activities center in their relationship and their church youth camp.

“My lunch money!” the small boy wailed, pointing.

Three quarters rolled across the sidewalk toward a storm sewer opening. Without hesitation, Jane stared at the tumbling coins, and they stopped as if hitting a wall. She smiled as the tearful child snatched them up and crammed them into his pocket. An air of joy hovered about the child as he trotted away toward school.

God bless you, little one, she thought after him. God, bless me at school this year, too, she prayed.

A telepath, Jane had focused her brain to stop the rolling coins. From her earliest childhood, she learned to mask her extraordinary gift. To her parents and teachers, she was an ordinary, but highly intelligent, daughter and student.

When her parents named her, they hoped she would grow up to be a happy, well-adjusted woman. It seemed almost a cliché that they expected her to be a “plain Jane”.
