Bedtime Story: Bennett and the Best Birthday Ever Picture book story for young kids. Bennett the puppy is very excited. Today is his birthday! But he quickly realizes that everyone seems to have forgotten about his birthday—even his very best friends. By the end of the afternoon, Bennett feels so sad and lonely that he leaves a note explaining that he is running away from home. Little does he know that all his friends have been busy planning a surprise party for him. But without Bennett around, how can they celebrate? Will Bennett’s friends find him in time to for the party? Or will this really, truly be Bennett’s worst birthday ever?
Bennett is usually a happy, energetic puppy who enjoys spending time with his friends, Bennett feels sad and lonely for much of the story. Even the youngest of readers will recognize Bennett’s tendency to feel sorry for himself and his impulsive hastiness in making the decision to run away, but even so, the main character is likable and relatable throughout the story, and readers can’t help but sympathize with him when he feels sad, and cheer with him at the story’s happy conclusion. Bennett’s has tan fur, a white tummy, and an energetic fluffy tail.
