Basil was the youngest child of James and Elizabeth Billingsley. Throughout his entire life, all of his older siblings had called him, “Little Brother.” He lived comfortably with his parents in a stately home in the quiet frontier town of Guilford Courthouse, North Carolina.
Basil never did anything dangerous or important … until a quiet night in April, 1776. Loyalist militiamen raided his home and attacked his Patriot family. At the tender age of nine, Basil had to take up arms and fight to defend his home. His quiet, boring life was shattered on that night of gunfire, blood, and pain.
As the years passed, the American Revolution inched closer and closer to his home. A battle was brewing … one of the biggest battles of the war. Armies mustered and marched within sight of his own house. But, what would Basil Billingsley do? Would he hide out in the comfort and safety of his home? Or, would he take up a musket and fight?
Little Brother is the story of a brave young man from North Carolina who overcame his fears and fought for his freedom, his family, and his country.
