Harriet Tubman and The Underground Railroad

Cards (Haley Communications March 15, 2006)
Harriet Tubman and The Underground Railroad. Contains: A Harriet Tubman mask, a brochure filled with facts, quotes, and a history trivia card game of 60 cards. The game comes in a handy polybag travel pack. During the Civil War, ex-slave Harriet Tubman was a cook, a nurse and a spy for the Union Army. In 1863, she led a raid by the Union Army in South Carolina. In advance of the raid, she went to the plantation and told the slaves to run into the river and they would be rescued by Union ships. Hundreds of slaves escaped. It was the first military operation in U.S. history to be led by a woman. Sample quote: "I freed thousands of slaves. I could have freed more if they knew they were slaves." History comes alive when players take turns using the mask and read a favorite quote plus selections from the biography. They then compete to answer the multiple choice trivia questions. The winner gets to be Harriet Tubman for the day. Fun for the entire family, in the car or wherever you are.
