  • The Young Cottager

Rev. Legh Richmond M.A., Rev. James Milnor D.D.

    Paperback (Curiosmith, Feb. 28, 2011)
Jane Squibb, a twelve year old, attended Saturday afternoon instruction at Rev. Legh Richmond’s house. He used the graves in the churchyard and the beauty of nature to teach the children about God. Jane was little noticed until she became sick, then Rev. Richmond decided to visit her constantly. Little Jane’s spiritual maturity exhibited an affectionate seriousness and a knowledge of the Scriptures. “He not only called her as a child to show, by a similitude, what conversion means, but he also called her by his grace to be a vessel of mercy, and a living witness of that almighty power and love by which her own heart was turned to God.”—Legh Richmond. This extended edition includes rich scenery descriptions and three illustrations. The appendix includes reports of two visits to the Isle of Wight years afterward.

    Legh Richmond

Paperback (Grace and Truth Books, Dec. 1, 2009)
Legh Richmond's The Young Cottager, first written in the mid-1800s, is the touching and true story of young Jane of Brading, a young lady who was a member of the church he served. Jane's strength of faith even during poor health and multiplied sufferings captured her pastor's notice, as a marvelous and striking example. Jane, also the first convert of his ministry there, is the subject of this beautifully told story, with illustrations from nature filling the pages as well. In addtion to the story of The Young Cottager, this volume also includes four other short stories, each about the faith of individuals living in very different times than ours: * Fanny Graham * Little Ruth * An abridged version of the well-known story of Mary Jones and her Bible * The short story What Must I Do? Each is a story of believers living with praise to God in their hearts when they could have complained of their difficult circumstances.

    Legh Richmond

Paperback (Ulan Press, Aug. 31, 2012)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

    Legh Richmond, Joseph Sepe, MuseumAudiobooks.com

    Audiobook (MuseumAudiobooks.com, Jan. 19, 2019)
Noted for his stories focusing strongly on the religious experiences of the poor and often female members of his community, Legh Richmond can be perceived as something of a revolutionary. Every Saturday afternoon, Richmond would teach local children about God using the abundance of nature and beauty as a catalyst. When 12-year-old Jane Squibb turns ill and he visits her sickbed, he finds in her an old soul filled with great spiritual maturity and remarkable knowledge of the Scriptures.
