  • WELL FANCY THAT!

Debra Hall, Joe Hall, Susan Pike

    (, Sept. 8, 2019)
I'm Debra. My son Joe was just seven when he wrote the story of Joe, The Zookeeper and how, one day, he was teased and tricked by the animals. I liked the story very much and so, just for fun, I began to sketch and then paint the pictures bringing the story to life. Later, I asked ex-teacher, Susan if she could help me compile a poem based on Joe's original story and link with the bright and colourful illustrations I had already produced. The 'poem' includes a repetitive phrase at the end of every verse - "Well Fancy That!" which a young child might repeat out loud whilst being read to. The story has a moral message which says it is okay to tease, in a cheeky sense, but not to be unkind.
