    William Craft

  • Walt Whitman

Richard Maurice Bucke M.D., Richard Bucke

    Paperback (BiblioBazaar, April 17, 2008)
This reproduction of Walt Whitman by Richard Maurice Bucke M.D. is a very rare find. Despite the fact that this represents the only biography ever authorized by Whitman only two hundred copies of the original 1884 book were ever published. Written by his dear friend Dr. Bucke a physician from London Ontario where Whitman visited their relationship represents a piece little known Canadian history. In addition to Dr. Bucke's detailed and personal biographical sketch the author also covers the history of Leaves of Grass as well as an extensive analysis of Whitman's poetry. The biography is also supplemented by a section "English Critics on Walt Whitman" edited by Edward Dowden L.L.D. professor of English Literature at the University of Dublin. A must read for all Whitman researchers and literary historians.
